Poppy is a very complex character with multiple layers. To sum up, she is strong (both mentally and physically) and fierce. However, she is also thoughtful and curious. 

Poppy also has powers that allow her to feel what others feel and ease their pain with happy memories.

Who is Hawke?

Hawke is the second main character who we follow throughout the book as well. 

He is very mysterious and holds many secrets. Hawke is also described as extremely handsome. 

Poppy can detect a great deal of pain from Hawke at all times. But he remains quite carefree and humorous.

From Blood and Ash is a new adult novel. That is to say, the book has mature scenes and deals with heavy topics. The characters are over 18 as well.

How does From Blood and Ash end?

Jericho, along with the other dissenters, tries to kill Poppy in the cell but Kieran manages to step in. After that, he makes a command to get the Prince immediately.

Chapter 38

Kieran carries Poppy away. She hears Hawke telling her to open her eyes. 

He says that he will make Poppy’s pain go away. Hawke then bites into his wrist, tearing the skin open. He tells Poppy to drink. 

Kieran tries to question him and calls him Casteel. However, Hawke doesn’t listen.

Poppy protests because she thinks that she’ll turn into a monster. Hawke persuades Poppy to drink his blood. 

Poppy does so and feels better. Hawke explains to her that it’s because the blood of an Atlantian has healing properties. 

He admits to using his ability to compel her to drink his blood but says that he hasn’t used it on her before. 

He again says that the Ascended made the Craven. 

Poppy starts to feel odd. She tries to get Hawke to kiss her but he refuses. He says she’ll hate him later for it. 

Hawke assures her that those who tried to kill Poppy will pay. He says that he’ll kill them for it. 

Poppy remembers that Kieran called him Casteel. Hawke admits to his name being Casteel and being the Prince. 

Poppy then gets mad and tries to get away from Casteel. Ultimately, she stabs Casteel in the chest. 

Chapter 39

Poppy starts crying, apologizes, then runs out into the snow. 

In a moment, Casteel catches up to her. He bites into her neck. After that, they have a passionate moment in the snow. 

They start back to the house. Casteel says that he doesn’t blame Poppy for trying to kill him. He gives her his shirt. 

They both admit to still being angry at each other. He picks her up and carries her inside. On the way, he says that he’ll take her home to Atlantia. 

Chapter 40

Casteel brought Poppy back to the room where she stabbed him. 

Kieran stood by the door keeping watch. He explains that Atlantia is beyond the Skotos mountains. 

Poppy proceeds to take a long bath. Kieran rushes in after a while since she didn’t answer his calls.

And she is horrified since she is naked in the tub. She tells him to get out.

Chapter 41

Poppy changes to clean clothing and falls asleep. 

She wakes to Casteel touching her cheek. They talk for a while. 

Casteel says he’ll escort her down to dinner. 

On the way, they pass a wall where bodies were nailed on display. They were the ones who’d hurt Poppy. 

They go to eat and Poppy’s mind lingers in the hallway. Casteel asks her about it and she says that she was shocked. 

Casteel says that they will be leaving in the morning. But Poppy says that Atlantia isn’t her home. 

Casteel then says his suspicions out loud, that Poppy is part Atlantian. 

Kieran wonders why they must go home. 

Casteel lifts his and Poppy’s joined hands. He says that they must go home to marry.
