The popularity of this series has inspired authors around the world to write fanfictions based on the characters and their lives in these books.

Even if you are not familiar with the series or its characters, there is still a lot to enjoy within Re Zero fanfiction.

These stories are full of action, adventure, and bit of romance, as well.

Keep reading to learn more about some of the most popular Re:Zero fanfictions.

1. Re:Zero Watching Him Die Again and Again

This first Re Zero fanfiction focuses on Rem, Emilia, and of course Subaru.

It is a fairly dark story that involves a lot of suffering for many of the characters.

There are, however, a lot of great moments that counteract the darkness, as well.

Moments of humor and love are sprinkled in this story, so it is not all bleak and depressing.

This story is a reaction story in which the characters each see Subaru’s adventures in their own worlds.

It is interesting to see how each character reacts to Subaru’s life, and it adds a great deal of depth to each of them and to the world itself.

The author does a great job of portraying each character in a true and meaningful way.

So it is a really enjoyable story to read.

2. Re:Zero (Are We Really Going Back to Zero?)

In this next story, we see what happens when Subaru’s entire life is revealed.

It is similar to the previous story, but these two authors take a similar concept and make them into dramatically different stories.

They are each enjoyable to read in their own ways.

In this story, the author mainly focuses on Emilia and her reactions to Subaru’s life.

The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not they will understand Subaru’s pain and suffering.

The author of this story does a great job of mixing in some sweet moments with all of the pain and suffering.

We get to see many different perspectives in this story.

And they all come together to form one unique and very touching Re:Zero fanfiction.

3. Natsuki x Subaru

If you are looking for a story that is full of pain and suffering, look no further.

This story is the epitome of suffering for Subaru.

Subaru and some of his friends encounter a peculiar book collection that presents them with massive problems and challenges.

He is hunting for the truth about this book collection, all while trying to save everyone from the evil around them.

Encountering a library full of identical books is certainly suspicious and something to be wary of, but in this world, it is even more worrisome.

The author writes as if they are writing an actual novel in the series.

The storyline, the characterization, and the writing style all fit in so well with the original series that it is hard to imagine that this comes from a different author.

With this being one of the most popular Re Zero fanfictions out there, you know it is going to be a good one.

4. Tanya Starts from Zero

In this Re Zero fanfiction, we get a crossover story with another popular manga, Saga of Tanya the Evil.

There are appearances from our favorite characters from Re Zero, but this story heavily focuses on Tanya and her experiences.

After Tanya wins the Great War, she is whisked away by Being X.

She seems to have terrible luck, and this is something she certainly has in common with Subaru and his fellow characters.

The author of this story is a great writer who is able to place these characters in worlds that they would not usually appear.

This story contains situations and experiences that could never happen in either of these stories separately, so it is fun to see them come together in one world.

If you are looking for a fun and lengthy story to throw you into a new world with characters you may not know yet, this is a great place to start.

5. The Butterfly Effect

The next Re Zero fanfiction we will look at it is a mature story that is best suited for adult readers.

There is a bit of graphic violence, as well as scenes and mentions of death.

In this story, Emilia loses her sigil, and the events of the story play out quite differently from what we see in the books.

Of course, Subaru is there by her side the whole time.

There are a lot of unexpected twists and turns in this story, and you likely won’t be able to guess what happens next in each chapter.

The author loves to leave readers with a cliffhanger at the end of each chapter, so be prepared to get drawn in very quickly.

It is worth it, however, as this story is well-written and very engaging.

It offers new scenarios that we haven’t seen before, and it allows our favorite characters to make big decisions that have lasting effects.

6. Starting Life…In Japan!?!?

In this popular and fascinating Re Zero fanfiction, Emilia is transported to Japan.

We get to see what would happen if she was the one who transported instead of Subaru.

Emilia’s old life is a distant memory, and she begins the search for her new life.

She encounters plenty of trials and struggles, but somehow she comes out on top.

At least most of the time.

There is plenty of struggle and suffering in this story, as we can expect from a good Re Zero fanfiction

We see Emilia in a very fragile mental state, and we see how she deals with the difficult hand she is dealt.

It is a great story with a unique plot that will get you hooked immediately.

7. Forced to Listen

This next story is another mature one, due to its violent content.

Emilia makes a startling and somewhat horrific discovery that leaves everyone a bit shaken up.

Subaru is, of course, dealing with his own struggles during all of this, but he is eventually reunited with his loved ones.

Unfortunately, what he finds waiting for him is not at all what he expected.

Amidst all of the chaos and suffering, there is also plenty of romance in this story.

The author does a great job of balancing pain and suffering with happy moments of joy and love.

There are also many sweet moments of friendship throughout the story, and it is so enjoyable to see how they play out.

This story is long, but not quite as lengthy as many of the others.

It is a great choice for someone looking for a smaller commitment that still brings lots of content to the table.

8. Friend in High Places

This fascinating Re:Zero fanfiction is an extension of an existing storyline from the novels.

It takes place after Subaru is rejected by all of the candidates in Arc 3.

Out of desperation and despair, Subaru contacts the Diving Dragon Volcanica.

We see Subaru at his lowest in this story.

Not only has he been rejected, but it seems that everything else in his life is going wrong, too.

It seems like things couldn’t possibly get worse; until they do.

If our knowledge serves us, there is always more suffering to be had by Subaru.

The author does a great job of writing suffering for Subaru.

Sure there is an abundance of suffering, but it is not so much that it becomes unrealistic.

This is a great, albeit depressing, story that you won’t want to miss out on.

9. The Final Timeline

This story is one of the longest in its genre, but it is also one of the best.

There are hundreds of comments raving about the author’s writing style, the characterizations of each person, and the interesting and unique plot points that these characters are faced with.

The author is still updating this story regularly, so it is a great one to get lost in.

In this story, we see what happens when Subaru is allowed to know the love of his friends.

Statella has taken pity on him, but that has not made his experiences any easier.

Subaru’s friends and loved ones learn about the sacrifices that he has made for them, and they work to repay him one day at a time.

This story is probably one of the best on this list in terms of character development and maturity.

We see how each person deals with the troubles they are facing, and they each do it in such different and lovely ways.

10. Bonding with an Oni from Six

This Re Zero fanfiction that we will look at is another one that is still in the works.

The author of this story regularly posts updates and new chapters to the story, so you can rest assured knowing that plenty of content is waiting for you.

This story is a bit different from others in that it is a fan adaptation of an existing storyline from the novels.

The author gives it a personal twist, however, adding so much depth to the story that we did not get initially.

In this story, we see what would happen if Subaru survived the sixth timeline.

If Ram did not kill him, what might have become of him?

You will have to read the story to find out, but it is an interesting read.

11. The Sage and The Sword Saint

Have you heard of the story “The Sage and The Sword Saint”?

It’s a tale about a person who was forgotten by the world and betrayed by the people they once called friends.

This person was accused and tortured, but luckily, they were saved by a red-haired knight.

And a Vollachian princess who believed in them despite what others said.

The Sword Saint came a little later, but he vowed to protect his forgotten friend.

It’s a story of hurt, comfort, and friendship.

12. A Witch’s Blessing

This is a fanfic based on the Re:Zero anime.

It follows the character Natsuki Subaru, who feels powerless and emotional during the Witch’s Tea Party with all the witches present.

He breaks down into tears, and the witch Satella wants to give him a gift with the help of another witch.

The gift ends up being a curse that gives him a group of women who all want him.

And the story mostly focuses on the mature content between the characters.

So, it’s an OOC, mostly mature story, with adult themes.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s an interesting take on the Re:Zero world.

13. Forsaken Hero

Subaru Natsuki, has been through numerous life-and-death situations, fighting archbishops and beasts.

However, his existence is erased by gluttony, and he is labeled a sinful archbishop and tortured for months.

Finally, his pain is seen by Satella, who gives him eternal rest.

The story then explores the aftermath of Subaru’s permadeath, with his former allies suffering from the guilt of what they have done.

The author focuses on the idea of no happy endings for once and emphasizes the suffering of everyone except for Subaru and Satella in the afterlife.

14. An Otherworldly Idol

This fanfic is about a girl named Natsuki Subaru who is the most popular girl in school and a talented musician.

She dreams of becoming an idol.

But just a few months away from graduation, she suddenly finds herself in another world.

It’s a harsh and unforgiving place where she struggles to stay alive.

The question is, will she ever get to achieve her dream of becoming an idol in this new world?

15. Reverse-Isekai React

The story is about a group of characters from the Re:Zero universe who find themselves transported to another world.

In this new world, they are forced to react to various events and situations from the history of our world.

The main character, Subaru, and his companions must navigate this strange new world while dealing with the challenges that come their way.

Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including Echidna.

This character is obsessed with obtaining knowledge from this other world and causes chaos in her quest to do so.

The story is a combination of a history and fantasy crossover with a unique twist.

16. Re:Zero Tortured

The protagonist, Subaru Natsuki, has hit rock bottom as his contracted spirit betrayed him, and he has been tortured by his own friends.

He wants to die, but a group of witches decides to help him.

Through their aid, Subaru begins to rise up and grow as a person.

This story features themes of revenge, conflict, and personal growth.

The characters also face monsters, suffering, and magic.

It’s about overcoming obstacles and becoming stronger, even when things seem impossible.

17. Sealed

The story follows the characters Natsuki Subaru and Pandora, who, in a self-sacrificing move, seal themselves together in a dark void.

They are alone in this space, with no one and nothing else except for each other.

The story explores their relationship as they face the challenges of this new existence, including love, drama, insanity, desperation, and sacrifice.

The two enemies are forced to become friends and, eventually, lovers as they navigate this strange new world.

It also deals with themes of depression and character death.

Overall, “Sealed” is a gripping tale of selflessness, sacrifice, and the power of love in even the darkest places.

18. A Good Joke

This fanfic is about Subaru, the main character, who has been betrayed and tortured by his friends.

But ultimately he realizes that everything is just a joke, and everyone is just an imagination.

It’s a story full of humor and wholesomeness, with Subaru playing pranks and goofing around with his friends even though it’s rated mature and has strong violence.

The story has a lot of feel-good interactions and showcases the bond between Subaru and his loved ones.

Overall, it’s an interesting take on the Re: Zero world with a unique perspective on the characters.

19. Wish Upon a Sin

Subaru, gains a new ability after dying at the hands of Elsa in a looted house.

This ability forces him to take a longer view of events and to be more cautious because a single death will undo all the progress he has made.

As a result, the story diverges from the original canon and follows Subaru as he navigates through time loops and faces many obstacles.

Along the way, he meets various characters, including some original ones, and deals with despair and tricksters.

Overall, this fanfiction is an interesting take on the Re: Zero world and is worth reading.

20. Mirror That Reflects the Soul

In this last fanfiction, Subaru’s name is eaten by Gluttony and everyone subsequently forgets him.

He is then accused of being a Sin Archbishop and is arrested, tortured, and killed by his former friends.

Despite all of this, instead of becoming angry and resentful, Subaru becomes unhealthily attached to them.

The story explores his journey of dealing with his issues and unhealthy attachment to his friends.

It’s an exciting read and worth checking out if you’re a fan of the Re:Zero anime series.

However, I should warn you that it contains intense violence, so it may not be suitable for everyone.
