Hunting Prince Dracula Summary

Hunting Prince Dracula is the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper. The story continues where we left off in book one with Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell.

In Stalking Jack the Ripper, Audrey Rose experienced some traumatizing events. This still affects her very much, and she hopes to escape from it all. Audrey Rose and Thomas travel to Romania to attend the Academy of Forensic Medicine. They start a trial period where all the students have to compete to earn one of the two spots available.

However, once they arrive in Romania problems arise. First, a murder happens on a train. A body is left for dead, drained of all its blood. Soon it seems death is following Audrey Rose and Thomas to the academy because more people die there in the same ‘vampiric’ way.

Thomas and Audrey Rose have to work together yet again to solve this mystery. And along the way, they find out that everything is not as it seems.

Series in order

As mentioned above, Hunting Prince Dracula is part of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco. This series contains four books in total and one novella between books three and four.

  5. Capturing the Devil

Bonus Content

In the hardback copies of Hunting Prince Dracula, you can find some extras.

For instance, there are handwritten letters from Audrey Rose, Anastasia, and Thomas.

There are also images from textbooks about Vlad the Impaler, vampires, and more of the sort.

With these images, you get an even more accurate idea of what the characters are seeing and talking about.

For the paperback version, Kerri Maniscalco put in even more bonus content.

We find some letters from Thomas to his sister Daciana.

These letters start from the very first meeting between Thomas and Audrey Rose.

And they show his growing affections toward Audrey Rose very clearly.

Ending

[SPOILERS BELOW]

In the epilogue, we see the conclusion of the events in Romania.

Audrey Rose and Thomas managed to solve the mystery and find out who the killer is.

But Thomas and Audrey Rose are in for another surprise.

Jonathan, Audrey Rose’s uncle, shows up unannounced.

Jonathan is there to tell them that he is summoned to America for a troubling forensic case. He wants Audrey Rose and Thomas to assist him on the case.

Who are the main characters in Hunting Prince Dracula?

[SPOILER CONTENT BELOW]

Thomas

Similar to Stalking Jack the Ripper, Thomas Cresswell is one of the main characters in this book. His friendship and growing affections towards Audrey Rose are a very large part of his story.

In Hunting Prince Dracula, Thomas is more open about his feelings for Audrey Rose. He loves her and wants to be with her. But the events from book one create some complications between them.

Audrey Rose

After finding out she is related to Jack the Ripper in book one, Audrey Rose is struggling.

She is having nightmares about her brother.

She is also having trouble trusting the people around her.

Even though she knows Thomas has feelings for her, it is hard for her to trust him with her own problems.

By coming to Romania and studying at one of the best schools, she hopes to put the past behind her.

In fact, her studies have always been the most important thing to her.

In short, she is trying her best to become the first female student at the Academy for Forensic Medicine.

Anastasia

Anastasia is the ward of the Headmaster at the Academy for Forensic Medicine. She does not study there, but because of her position, she is able to join some classes. Audrey Rose and Anastasia soon become friends and they spend some time together.

At some point, the body of Anastasia is found. And it seems she has become the victim of Vlad the Impaler.

Daciana

Daciana Creswell is Thomas’s sister. She shows up at the academy to see her brother. But as it turns out, he isn’t the only one she has come to see.

Daciana is having a secret relationship with Ileana, a servant at the academy. Because of the nature of their relationship, they are forced to keep it a secret.

Noah

Noah Hale is also one of the students at the Academy for Forensic Medicine. Like Audrey Rose and Thomas, he is competing with the other students to gain admission to the Academy. As mentioned, only two contenders will actually be able to become students there. Regardless, Noah is a kind person who treats everyone equally.

Romance

Audrey Rose and Thomas

From the start of Stalking Jack the Ripper, there is a certain tension between Thomas and Audrey Rose. They continue to explore their feelings for each other during Hunting Prince Dracula.

That said, Thomas is very clear about his feelings toward Audrey Rose.

But she is having trust issues following the revelations in Stalking Jack the Ripper.

However, it is clear that Thomas and Audrey Rose care about each other deeply. And they want to find a way to be together.

Who is the killer?

[SPOILER CONTENT BELOW]

Of course, this is a major spoiler. But, if you really want to know, the killer is Anastasia.

She isn’t dead as we were to believe. She faked her death and put the body of another poor girl in the morgue.

It turns out that Anastasia is the last descendant of Dracula’s wife. Her intention is to marry the last descendant of Dracula. That is the reason she killed all the other people who got in her way.

Hunting Prince Dracula Quotes

This book has some beautiful lines. Especially in the conversations between Thomas and Audrey Rose. Because this book is set in an older time period, the language sounds a bit stilted.

Nevertheless, here are some of my favorite quotes from Hunting Prince Dracula:

  • “Monsters are only as real as the stories that grant them life. And they only live for as long as we tell those tales.”
  • “Humans were the true monsters and villains, more real than any novel or fantasy could invent.”
  • “Love strangles intelligence, even in the best of us.”
  • “You would miss me terribly and know it. Just as I would miss you in ways I cannot fathom, should we ever part.”
  • “Curiosity was a disease that plagued me, and I’d yet to find a cure.”

  • Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson – This is a standalone book about magic with a strong female leading character. It’s also a quick and easy to read.
  • Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – This is the first book in a trilogy about a witch and a witch hunter who strike an unlikely deal to help each other. It has some sarcastic banter and a nice love story.
  • Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco. This is another series by the same author as Hunting Prince Dracula. The writing style is similar, but it is a different kind of story. If you appreciate Maniscalo’s skill in developing characters, you will likely enjoy this series.
