A fae (or faerie) is a mythical creature with great powers. Although there is no consensus among authors, they are often portrayed as human-like but stronger. In many cases, the fae in fantasy play tricks on or are at odds with humans.
Patrick Rothfuss has described the fae in his famous Kingkiller Chronicles series as having mystical beauty and a siren-like quality of luring men away to their demises with their stunning beauty.
