But in this post, I will be writing about some of the most popular Warcraft fanfiction according to hits received in Archive Of Our Own.

Keep reading to find out more about some of these amazing and original stories.

1. The Wind and the Lion

In this story, we follow Anduin, King of the Alliance, during the war.

The Horde possesses the potential to create super weapons, and Anduin is forced to make some drastic decisions because of this.

He knows he has to forge an alliance with Sylvanas Windrunner.

But they both soon find out that there is more at stake than just a war.

It’s also about their feelings for each other and the consequences for their people.

The story contains 59 chapters and is completely finished.

It is great to read a complete story without having to wait for any new chapters.

2. Elune’s Pebble

This story is a crossover between Harry Potter and Warcraft, with the main focus on the characters from HP.

The writer also stated that you don’t need to know anything about Warcraft to be able to understand the story.

The story follows Harry in his 5th year in Azaroth.

Cataclysm has just happened and Harry feels like he wasn’t able to help everyone the way he wanted.

The characters in this story are mostly from Harry Potter and the ones the writer made up.

However, the world-building and a lot of the magic systems are from Warcraft.

This makes it a very nice combination of both fandoms and is amazing to read.

There are 41 chapters so far and the story still receives updates on a regular basis.

3. The Wrath of Sabellian

In this story, we follow Wrathion, who claims to be the last Black Dragon in existence.

But then he meets Sabellian, the eldest son of Deathwing, who is abandoned in the Blade’s Edge Mountains.

Because they didn’t know of each other’s existence before, they end up in a violent struggle both wanting to be the top dragon and fighting for acknowledgment.

Wrathion seeks help from Anduin, with even more risks at play.

The story is finished with 53 chapters and 1 note from the author chapter.

With over 24,000 hits and still adding, this story is a very popular one.

4. When Two Worlds Collide

In this story, we follow Sylvanas, Warchief of the Horde, and Anduin, Leader of the Alliance.

It takes place around the Battle of Azeroth expansion for World of Warcraft.

Sylvanas and Anduin face each other and are both fighting for their people and themselves.

Will they be able to put aside all differences and come to a solution?

Or maybe they find out there is more to the other person than they know.

The writer isn’t familiar with the World of Warcraft games themselves.

But still with the help of some gamers and reading the lore, they were able to create a very nice story.

5. Deku the Warcrafted

This story is a crossover between Warcraft and My Hero Academia.

(If you want to read about My Hero Academia fanfiction, check out this post!)

Izuku has always wanted to be a Hero, but he found out he is Quirkless.

Defeated by this revelation he walks home only to come across a Little Shop that wasn’t there before.

Fascinated by this little store he goes in and what he finds there is completely different from his expectations.

And somehow, after talking to the woman in the store, he finds himself in Azeroth.

This story is equally fun for both fans of Warcraft and fans of My Hero Academia.

Because there is a great combination of both fandoms, everyone is in for a treat.

6. Before the Dawn

This story is based completely on the World of Warcraft game.

The fourth war has come to an end, but Sylvanas can’t take it slow.

Somehow she is pulled back in time where she is confronted with her own choices.

We see all the big characters from the World of Warcraft game and some new original ones created by the writer.

The story touches on a few difficult subjects like angst, sexual assault, and trauma.

But the writer did try to make sure these subjects do not trigger anyone but are a good addition to the story.

The story is 11 chapters long and has a real ending.

So if you are looking for a great story about WoW but not too long, this is the one for you.

7. A Dim Light in the Maelstrom

In this story, it is two thousand years after the fourth war.

We follow Maiev Shadowsong who is still having problems with the way the world has evolved.

She is still clinging to the past, even though she knows that it is time to let go.

Illidan Stormrage has been gone for all these years but suddenly he returns to this world that he does not recognize.

Both of them have problems with this world, but even more problems with each other.

Yet they find themselves dependent on each other and need to find a way to start over, together.

There are 53 chapters to this story and it is the first part of the “Dim Light” series.

8. Bitter Enemies

In the midst of the Battle of Lordaeron Anduin and Sylvanas are facing each other.

When all of a sudden they find themselves in a strange world.

They don’t know where they are or if they can return and only have each other to find a way back.

So they will have to find a way to work out their differences and become allies instead of enemies.

The story is 24 chapters long.

And with a nice writing style, it is easy and fast to read.

9. Diary of a Mad Gamer Chick

From start to end this story is a diary.

A girl from our world is addicted to World of Warcraft and somehow is sucked into the game.

She has to deal with her new body and abilities, but also with Garrosh Hellscream.

It is a massive story with 332 chapters.

But because it is a diary, not all chapters are very long.

With this type of writing style, there are some elements left out of the story.

That said, it is still a fun story and if you are willing to stick with it to the end, you are amazing!

10. To the Ends of the Earth

The story starts at the end of the Wrath of the Lich King.

Arthas is dead, but he isn’t going to the afterlife.

Instead he now somehow is 19 years old again, but with all the memories from his previous life.

He knows that he now has the chance to change his past and future.

So he leaves home and tries to stop the horrors of the Plague before they ever happen.

This story is a very unique twist on the Lich King story.

And if you enjoyed playing this expansion and reading the lore, this story is absolutely for you.

There are 40 chapters so far, but there is no end yet.

So make sure to check out the story regularly for new chapters.
